Where to Buy Seeds

October 13, 2020

There are now many places to purchase cannabis seeds online. There are several types of seeds available for purchase, so you should be aware of the differences between them before deciding which to purchase.

Standard Seeds: These are generally less expensive, but can be a mixture of male and female seeds. There is not a clear way to identify males vs. females by looking at the seeds alone, this is generally determined later once the plants start to mature. The buds you are looking for come solely from the female plants, so you will want to remove any male plants you discover as soon as possible because you do not want the male plants to pollenize the female plants during the flowering cycle. More information on this can can be found on our Beginners Guide to Growing (https://cultivatetech.com/blogs/news/a-beginners-guide-to-growing). Grow times vary depending on strains but it is generally 4 weeks in veg with a 18/6 light/dark cycle, and 8-10 weeks in flower with a 12/12 light/dark cycle.

Feminized Seeds:  Generally more expensive than a standard seed package, feminized seeds are guaranteed to grow into female plants. This guarantees the number of plants you'll be able to grow to harvest since you know you will not need to remove any unexpected males. This is most often the preferred way to purchase seeds. Grow times vary depending on strains but it is generally 4 weeks in veg with a 18/6 light/dark cycle, and 8-10 weeks in flower with a 12/12 light/dark cycle.

Autoflower Seeds: This method is definitely the simplest method of growing cannabis. Autoflower seeds have a much shorter grow cycle and do most of the work for you. The grower does not need to worry about switching the light cycle between veg and flower, they just need to plant the seeds and set the lights for an 18/6 light/dark cycle and wait about 7 to 11 weeks (strain dependent). until you are ready to harvest.

Where you purchase seeds is entirely up to the grower. Different providers will have different strains so it is encouraged to search for what best suits your needs. Below is a list of seed providers we have purchased from and grown under our fixtures and have had great results with.
